“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27 (NIV)
Whew, Girlfriend… Let’s Talk About When You Think God Goes Quiet.
Have you ever prayed and felt like the only thing you heard was your own echo?
I have.
I’ve sat in church surrounded by worshippers while feeling like I was standing behind a glass wall. Everyone else seemed to be hearing God, getting visions, and getting confirmations, while I was stuck wondering if He’d put me on Do Not Disturb.
Let me be honest: I thought I was doing everything right.
I was praying.
I was reading my Bible.
I was journaling.
I was showing up for my kids, my job, my calling.
But my spirit felt… silent.
And that silence felt so loud.
When You Think God Is Quiet, It Doesn’t Mean He’s Gone.
This is the first thing I want you to know, Girlfriend:
Your perception of God’s silence is not God’s absence.
Sometimes God may seem quiet because:
He’s already given you your answer. He’s protecting you from distraction. He wants you to seek Him deeper than your routine.
And sometimes… it’s just a season. And that’s okay.
Think about Jesus on the cross. Even He cried out, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)
The Son of God felt abandoned, but the Father had not left Him.
3 Reasons God Might Be Silent in Your Life
He’s Stretching Your Faith Muscles.
Silence grows spiritual maturity. If God gave us answers instantly, we’d never learn to trust Him beyond our feelings.
This is where faith steps in:
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” — Hebrews 11:1
He’s Waiting for You to Get Still.
Sometimes God is speaking, but the noise of life is drowning Him out.
Our schedules, notifications, stress, they’re loud. But God often whispers. And we miss whispers when we’re busy surviving.
He Wants Your Voice, Not Just Your Ears.
Whew. Let me say that again, Sis:
God wants your voice.
He wants you to speak back.
To declare His truth even when you can’t feel it. To say:
“God, I can’t hear You right now, but I know You’re still here.”
That’s why I created the 21 Days of Spoken Words Journal. Because sometimes, when God is quiet, you’ve got to remind your own spirit of His Word.
How I Found God Again in the Silence
There was a season when I felt abandoned by God. I’d cry into my pillow, whispering prayers like:
“God, why can’t I hear You? Am I doing something wrong?”
But looking back, I realize I wasn’t being punished. I was being prepared.
Here’s what helped me:
✅ I kept showing up. Even when I felt nothing, I opened my Bible. I journaled one sentence: “Lord, I’m here.”
✅ I spoke Scripture out loud even when I felt foolish. Because faith comes by hearing, not feeling.
✅ I gave myself permission to rest. Silence isn’t failure, it’s an invitation to pause.
Speak Your Way Through the Silence
If you’re in a silent season, Girlfriend, I want you to try this today:
Pick one Scripture. Write it down. Say it out loud. Even if your voice shakes.
Start with this:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14
Write it.
Speak it.
Believe it, even if your feelings haven’t caught up yet.
